carried away

I must be honest, I have a fear of balloons!  Isn't that silly?  I would be better off with this adorable print by lovemaki a torronto based artist.  the sentiment is sooo sweet {If you knew how much I love you  you'd faint}.  It would be a lovely gift and how sweet would it be in a nursery( you can also get it in french).  visit her equally adorable website here.   If you don't suffer from globophobia ( yes, that is the fear of balloons) like me, how fun are these giant balloons by geronimo balloon troopers?  perfect to have at a photo shoot, wedding, soiree or really just any old day!  Check them out here.

golden child

check out the latest issue of {online} magazine matchbook here.  this month MB is  featuring a great article on the oh so talented (and blonder) gretchen jones winner of project runway's eighth season.  gretchen certainly brought a bit of much needed tension to the tv series but love her or hate her, you can't deny her designs were winners.   I especially loved her almost primitive jewelry designs which delightfully can you yours ( and mine!) on Piperlime, check it out here. ( 100% percent of the profits from her jewelry sales go to aid for artisans, pretty cool, huh?)
are you watching season 9?  any favorites?

ps:  wanting more?  check out matchbook's tumblr page 'strikes our fancy'  here

I know it's been ages since I posted.  would you believe me if I said I just finished working 11 days straight?  I am catching an early flight tomorrow to VA to see my long lost family ( and friends)!   I haven't been home since thanksgiving!  speaking of flying remember when 'air travel' was glamorous?  probably not,  because it was way back in my favorite era, the 50's... I can say that I definitely won't look as pulled together at the airport as the lovely ladies pictured above!

I will be posting next week- so stay tuned!  In the meantime have a wonderful weekend!  I hope the sun is shining on you all!

clog LOVE

designers: Cilla Wingrd Neuman and Emy Blixt

I am super excited for the upcoming collaboration between two swedish design powerhouses-  H&M and swedish hasbeens ( creator of the ultimate clog).  I not only LOVE clogs but I am pretty obsessed with all things swedish...design & names to say the least.  fingers crossed they come to my atlanta H&M because I will be there 4/20 to get a pair, or two!   They will be launching three styles of wooden-soled clogs: A 3-buckle strap sandal wedge, a heeled summer sandal, and a peep-toe wedge. the price is right, and a lot more affordable than the 'real' deal( retail for more than $400 bucks!),  the shoes range from $59.95 to $69.95.  happy shopping!!!

" This Spring H&M is proud to be working with the cult shoe label Swedish Hasbeens bringing its wooden-soled style to the rest of the world. Available April 20th in around 150 stores worldwide, the three styles of wooden-soled clogs made exclusively for H&M are inspired by the traditional Swedish styles of the ’70s. Using handcrafted methods and environmentally friendly materials, Swedish Hasbeens are a perfect example of how fashion and fun can also be naturally sustainable."

hope

just spent the last hour pouring over images and video footage of the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in japan.  after watching the wall of water swallow the city of sendai I am left speechless, the scene is so horrendous it truly is beyond comprehension. a man was rescued 9 miles out at sea after clinging to a piece of his home for two days- have you seen shots of the sea?  it's a acres and acres of debris.  truly a miracle that he was found.  praying for thousands and thousands more of these miracles.

handmade sunday

driftwood series

bullseys series
well hello there.  sorry I have been missing in action!  I started my new job monday and  what a wake up call!  blogging and working is not easy to do.  after I get home from work, do a work out, play with oscar, tidy up, do laundry, eat dinner, admittedly watch a little reality tv... well all I can say is there are hardly enough hours in the day!  the good news is, I am still inspired daily and I have lots and lots more to share with you all!  please bare with me as I transition into full time employee and part time blogger.

talk about inspiring, check out these gorgeous handmade beauties I stumbled upon on etsy.  john & janet are the two forces behind paintsquare an etsy shop.  based in alabama, john and janet describe their creative process here,
"we basically start with a color combination in mind. I then construct a frame and fill it with locally acquired kiln-dried lumber scraps. From those pieces, we fill the frame in visually interesting patterns of the various shapes and sizes of the pieces. We then spend quite a bit of time sanding each individual piece, determining which pieces get painted what color. Once we put the piece together, we still tweak some colors and fix any spots we think are not perfect."

and paintsquare was a featured seller this week on the etsy blog, check out more about about the artists and their creative process here.  also, be sure to visit  their etsy shop.  how I would love one of the pieces above....the color palette is right up my alley and just all of the love that goes into each piece is amazing.  bravo john and janet!

and the oscar goes to...

as some of you may know, I am a huge huge fan of gwyneth paltrow . all loyalties aside, she truly was my pick for best dressed] at last nights annual academy awards. her calvin klein dress is absolutely flawless.  i love the shimmery metallic almost 'liquid' fabric.  the simple lines and perfectly tailored fit make it a knock-out.  shoes by brian atwood and jewelry by louis vuitton.  who were your favorites on the red carpet?
my runners up were:  michelle williams, mandy moore and  matthew mcconaughey's girlfriend, camila alves.

in the nude

check out kate bosworth in the march issue of nylon {for the whole spread visit here}.  seriously, has kate ever had an off day?  loving the nude lips- I think I will  have to pick up some nars lipstick in belle de jour {asap!!}.  oh, on that note if you head over to saks {through this Saturday} you can take advantage of 'beauty week', like gifts with  purchase and a saks goodie bag when you spend 100 bucks....so it's a good time to stock up if you are in the need!
happy wednesday!  xoxo

remember way back when?

ah, yes- domino magazine circa september 2006.  this had to be one of my favorite interior shots and honestly it still is to date.  it is the brooklyn home of loefller randall designer Jessie Randall. the 'for like ever' poster by tracy jenkins on her mantle became wildly popular after this issue hit newsstands ( still sold out today...but a new edition is on it's way in march check it out here, updates to follow on twitter).  I love love love the molding and the nelson saucer pendant lamp, the glass bell jar, the jonathan adler vases and  the pale pink peonies. unfortunately, after much searching I found that the wall paper was simply a vintage piece she creatively framed between her windows.  the good news is, you can scout out your very own vintage paper at the same source, here.  and not all good things must come to an end like domino magazine (sniff, sniff) the west elm parsons desk is still available, right here in polished white for $299.
be sure to check out loeffler randall's spring collection here (okay maybe just a little window shopping)  and stop by and see their perfectly edited and styled blog too.

'pop' art

wow, today felt like the first day of summer!  the sun was out, the sky was blue and the city was alive!  it seemed like everyone was out!   and while driving through and area called poncey-highlands I saw that the warm weather had brought a crowd  to the corner of N. Highland and North Avenue.....the center of this frenzy was none other than the 'king of pops'!  and I am not talking about one of jacksons but a local cart pushing celebrity known for his amazing frozen creations!
stephen carse is the creator of these now famous pops- which are fashioned after paletas or lation american popsicles made from fresh fruit.  after losing his job stephen decided that he would follow his dream of owning his very own paletas cart...and from what I can tell his dream has paid off!  the king of pops prides himself in unique flavors that you can't find just anywhere and the best part is his pops are handcrafted from fresh local organic ingredients.  as posted on his twitter page here, today's yummy  flavors were:
"grapefruit mint, raspberry lime, blood orange, tangerine basil, cookies & cream, & choc sea salt"
I am still kicking myself for not stopping and grabbing one of his famed pops...but there is always hope for tomorrow!!  I better get there early, his selections usually sell out fast ( as they did today!).  you can pick up 1 pop for $2.50 or 5 for $10. check out his website here and more info on where you can buy his famed pops here.
ps- come visit atlanta and I will take you to see the king of pops!!!
